Your basement is the part of your house most susceptible to flooding. Once flooded, pretty much anything in your basement can be damaged beyond repair, including personal items you’ve stored down there, your water heater, and your appliances. Flooding can also cause irrevocably damage the foundation of your house. Consider a sump pump in your basement and make sure your outside drainage keeps runoff well away from your house. As an extra precaution, have a professional perform an inspection to see if your basement can ward off potential floods.
